homespun quilt e-news

Hello All!

Sunshine and shadows. Emphasis on shadows. That describes this spring best. A wide variety of weather too, most of the time on the same day!

There are some exciting things happening soon at Homespun Quilts. Libby Lehman is scheduled to teach for two days in June, we are participants in “Sew Oregon” shop hop, and (drum roll please) we are purchasing a long arm quilting machine.

Hannah is graduating from High School this year. Yippee!!

Hannah just called, her class was chosen to see (ex) President Clinton during his visit to Astoria! She got to shake his hand. She was thrilled! How exciting. Oregon is the swing state for the election. We have more delegates available than the others left to vote in the primary elections.

Libby Lehman
June 10 and June 11
2 days, 2 classes

Libby had an opening in her schedule and is coming to the Pacific Northwest for a teaching tour. She will teach Threadplay l on June 10 and Threadplay ll on June 11. The following descriptions are from Libby’s website:

(Each student must have a zigzag sewing machine.)

Threadplay I: The Basics
Learn the basics and tricks of machine embroidery to create special effects on your quilts or wearables. This workshop concentrates on exploring different machine stitching techniques to give your quilts an individual and unique flavor. In order to learn as many different styles as possible, students will develop samples rather than completing a class project. The following techniques will be covered: sheer ribbon illusions, satin and decorative stitching, and potluck appliqué.
Threadplay II: Prima Donnas
Learn how to use problem threads, shifty fabrics, and unusual notions to your advantage. Techniques covered: working with sheer fabrics, bobbin drawing, spray adhesives, and couching. Continue to explore the wonderful world of Threadplay. This workshop covers how to deal with prima donnas, such as slippery sheer fabrics, upside-down bobbin drawing, couching weird stuff, and quilting with metallics. We will concentrate on technique samples rather than a class project. Tips and ideas for making your quilts easier and unique are sprinkled throughout this fun and informative workshop.
