Oh Boy! Thor took me to hear Ed Hume speak at the High School. It sure brought back memories. My mom introduced me to Ed via his television show. I learned a lot about gardening watching his show. My mom always listened to his radio show too. When Ed said “in this particular case” tonight I was so pleased. It’s a favorite phrase of his.

He talked about vegetable gardening on the coast. Soil, slugs, deer, specific plants. About deer repellent, he said Penn State did a study and found that Dial bar soap works really well (not irish spring). Hang a wrapped bar with only the top open in a nylon or mesh bag at deer nose level about every 10 feet in your garden. It really works! If you want to protect a rose plant he said hang the bag a little lower so they smell it when they bend their head down.

He is such an expert, I’m very glad I got to hear him in person. I got a copy of his new book, autographed!

He is very big on using common sense.

I’ll tell a little more latter. A good slug bait tip.
